Occupational health and safety training strategies for a culture of self-care among farmers

Abstract

The Content of the article presents the results of the research, which is focused on the study of training strategies in matters of safety and health at work to strengthen the self-care habits of fruit growers, this process was carried out during the year 2022. with a group of twenty-five workers over 18 years of age from the “ASOMEFRUT” association of the municipality of La Mesa (Cundinamarca, Colombia). The intervention was guided by the guidelines of the qualitative approach and the action-research methodology, based on planning, observation and reflection and evaluation that allows for an analysis of the problem and alternative solutions in order to promote safety and health. at work and generate safe work environments and good practices. Five information collection techniques were used, which are observation, an instrument for the characterization of the working population, an instrument for safety inspections and identification of hazards, and an evaluation format for training strategies for San Joaquín inspection workers. The results are obtained, the characteristics of the social and environmental conditions of the fruit growers' work area, the identification of the dangers grouped in the activities carried out by informal fruit growing workers and finally the design of training strategies is recommended. in legal, labor and prevention aspects related to work accidents, absenteeism due to illness and lack of labor protection; taking into account that very few fruit growers are affiliated with the social security system, which generates few guarantees of job stability and implications of sanctions and fines for associations that are dedicated to fruit growing. Finally, the analysis of the information collected through the different instruments that are established by categories through the triangulation methodology is carried out.
