Perceptions about accessible tourism. Case: Cozumel island, Mexico

Keywords: accessibility, social awareness, Cozumel, public servants, tourism

Abstract

The objective of the research was to reveal the social perception of Cozumel regarding the accessibility of tourist services for people with disabilities. The method was quantitative and descriptive applied in the tourism field; A survey with Likert-type responses and the Mann-Whitney U test were used. Through the results, it was determined that the infrastructure needs to be adapted and expanded, tourism servers are not trained in this segment and social awareness is required. This makes it possible to provide useful tools for evaluating universal accessibility public policies.
