Model of strategies for the transformation of agricultural products with quality and safety, supported by the associativity and ancestrality of the territories for the department of Meta, Colombia

The paper addresses the need to implement safety and quality processes in agricultural production in the Meta region. The efforts of local authorities and technology have not been adequately incorporated, and products do not meet the necessary standards to compete in regional and national markets. The transformation of these processes requires the active participation of farmers, who currently use rudimentary techniques. The research proposes a participatory mechanism for farmers to identify their needs and to develop and select quality and ubiquity strategies that will be primarily implemented. This procedure, which is complex for the choice of alternatives because of the variety and criteria involved, can be approached using the multi-criteria decision methods AHP (Analytical Hierarchical Process) and ANP (Analytical Network Process), combined with DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory). These methods are powerful and participatory. The research is conducted in two stages. The first identifies and analyzes the needs of the members of the Cooperativa Multiactiva de Mercados Campesinos de la Orinoquia (MercaOrinoquia) to prioritize food quality and safety strategies, aligned with the Development Plan of the Meta Region and the Sustainable Development Goals. The second stage seeks to give visibility and brand identity to the products, based on ancestral heritage and processes, to improve their positioning in the market. Using participatory action research and ethnographic methodology, the research aims to understand the identity and territorial connection of the producers, with the objective of generalizing this approach to other regional development projects.
